Ireland is great for long distance cycling, so why not rent a bike and explore it yourself? Cycling is a amazing way to really see the countryside, the stunning coast and meet the friendly, welcoming Irish locals. Below are 7 day, 3 day and 2 day route options.
Wild Atlantic Way, self-guided, 7 days:
We've put together an amazing week long route following the Wild Atlantic Way from Kinsale to Killarney. Our detailed guide gives invaluable information for you as a cyclist with information on hills, traffic levels, cafe stops and even bike repair shops. Just subscribe below for the guide.
This long distance, self-guided, cycling trip starts in Kinsale, Co. Cork, gateway to the Wild Atlantic Way and finishes in Killarney in Co. Kerry. It is aimed at the cyclist who is happy with a relaxed pace; those with an adventurous spirit and a good level of fitness but not necessarily an avid cyclist.
Days vary from 40-65km, 4-5 hours cycling a day, which allows you time to stop for a coffee and enjoy your surroundings. After all, that’s why you’re going! If you need a short day, it's possible to 'cut across' a peninsula, reducing your cycling distance.
"We cycled from Kinsale to Kenmare in one week. Followed the itinerary Ruth provided us. We had an amazing trip!! Great bikes, great service and magnificent views along the way." - Stijn, 2017
Wild Atlantic Way, self-guided, 3 days:
A beautiful 3 day cycle along the coast of the Wild Atlantic Way taking in the Old Head of Kinsale, Clonakility - known for it's great food, the fishing port of Baltimore and Ireland's only saltwater lake - Lough Hyne.
Cycle from Kinsale to Clonakility on Day 1 taking in the Old Head of Kinsale, the first discovery point on the Wild Atlantic Way. Stay overnight in vibrant Clonakility, then it's a beautiful coastal cycle from Clonakility to Skibbereen.
Stay overnight in Skibbereen, then the following day, it's a short cycle to Lough Hyne, Ireland's only salt water lake and then onto the fishing port of Baltimore.
From Baltimore, bring your bike on the ferry to Sherkin Island, where you can explore the narrow island roads by bike. Take the ferry back to Baltimore and it's a quick cycle back in Skibbereen. We'll collect your bike from here leaving you free to take the bus back to Cork.
